Abstract EN

The topic of the role of parliament in aligning national legislation with international environmental and sustainable development standards is of particular importance given the current situation and the scale of the challenges posed by environmental issues at both the national and global levels.

Protecting the environment has become a central issue on the international agenda.

These challenges have prompted countries to strengthen their national measures, particularly legislative ones, to protect the environment in compliance with relevant international obligations.

This topic has been addressed by examining the parliamentary approach to aligning national legislation with Morocco's international commitments in the field of environment and sustainable development, and its contribution to achieving the desired legislative alignment, by adopting a legal approach and a systematic method for analyzing inputs, content, process, and impact.

The study concluded that despite the awareness among Moroccan parliamentarians of the importance of international standards in developing environmental legislation, their role remains limited and faces many challenges.

This requires taking a set of measures to develop parliamentary practices in this field, such as seeking specialized expertise, openness to comparative experiences and foreign expertise.
