Corruption is one of the main issues in Iraq.

Corruption, bureaucracy, bribery, nepotism, lack of transparency and abandonment of responsibility are widespread in all the institutions of the country, and on a large scale, and sometimes it is the only way as a price for practicing and facilitating some business.

Also, extortion and patronage networks are among the main issues that certainly constitute an obstacle to stability, reconstruction, and the provision of basic services in Iraq.

Corruption in Iraq was not the product of the new regime.

Rather, it is a legacy acquired from the era of the previous regime, as corruption was present, but it has spread widely during the last two decades.

Because of the spread of corruption in the pillars of government institutions, it has been described as the most dangerous virus and the first cause of paralysis of the Iraqi economy over the previous decades, which contributes to the spread of criminal elements and favors private interests.

Resulting in the depletion of resources and waste of public money.
