Societies are made up of individuals who live in harmony with one another as well as with the natural world around them.

This means that any fault committed by a society's members can have an impact on the entire world.

Many writers have adapted such kinds of flaws in their writings like Colson Whitehead and Octavia Butler.

The current research depicts the cruelty, violation, and liberation in Colson Whitehead's novel The Underground Railroad, published in 2016, and Octavia Butler's novel The Kindred, which was initially published in 1979.

The two novels examine the experiences of the characters who lived throughout the abolitionist era.

The Underground Railroad is a riveting story about woman's called Cora, determination to escape from the horrors of bondage and a compelling meditation on the past.

Cora is heroine, brave and rebellious; the narrator suggests she inherited her capacity to endure obstacles and brutality from Ajarry, and her stubborn instinct for resistance from Mabel.

The novel ""Kindred"" (1979) tells the story of a Dana, an African-American woman, 26-year-old living in Los Angeles in 1976 who keeps traveling back in time when she is summoned to save the life of her ancestor Rufus Wylin, a slave owner in early 19th-century Maryland.

The two novels, are categorized as science fiction because of the existence of time travel.
