Diplomatic missions and their personnel shall enjoy dual protection under the rules of international law, reflected in peacetime according to the rules of diplomatic and consular law, and shall be accorded protection in time of war as stated by the rules of international humanitarian law.

Within the rules of diplomatic and consular law, the necessary protection shall be guaranteed to members of diplomatic and consular missions in order to facilitate the performance of the functions assigned to them.

Such protection shall be strengthened during internal tensions and disturbances.

Protection also includes the headquarters of diplomatic and consular permanent missions as subjects to popular anger.

This article attempts to explore the extent to which the established protection of diplomatic and consular missions is covered, the obligations arising from such protection for host States where such missions are located, and the extent to which the course of inter-State relations affects this aspect.
