This research highlights speech crutches as a language skill and a means for speakers and writers to draw the recipients’ attention and keep them in suspense.

one of the benefits of using crutches is that they allow the speakers to remember a statement, quote, or a certain idea .the limited use of speech crutches for social, technical, and psychological functions is commendable and desirable and contributes to enhancing communication, interaction, and harmony between interlocutors .crutches are one of the mechanisms of speech act required by both the situation and the context, as one of the communication techniques that attract the attention of recipients and induce them to focus on enhancing interaction with subject matters, themes, and ideas raised by the speaker or the writer.

further, the crutches are desirable and favorable in spontaneous communication in everyday life.

they reflect the speaker's or writer's flexibility in using the language, and express his expressive competence and communication skill, bringing about recipients' interaction and pleasure to the subject.

the writer found out that several speech crutches that were in currency in the past have disappeared now and, instead, people have resorted to using new crutches both in spoken and written language, and most recently, perhaps, those crutches are used in social media in the form of icons and symbols.
