An evaluation of the efl Iraqi secondary school teachers linguistic competence needs

Teachers' professional development should be performance oriented, this can only be accomplished if the teacher is scientifically well-prepared and has the fundamental knowledge bases necessary to make the learning process enjoyable for his students.

This paper attempts to put a hand on the needs of English teachers for Teachers' professional development using a descriptive method to describe and analyze the needs of English teachers(TNs), it is a kind of survey that tries to explore teachers needs by examining (118) secondary school experienced Iraqi teachers both female and male English teachers from different parts of the capital city of Baghdad, during the academic year 2019-2020 The subjects' age will range from 23 to 50 years old (their participation criterion is 2 years of teaching experience).

Their academic degree ranged from BA to M.A.

Data included a questionnaire, depending on a research survey by Dr.

Badria Al-Gublan (2007).

The questionnaire consists of six scopes each one has between 5-10 questions that identify the needs of each English teacher to training and development.
