Abstract EN

The aim of this study is identifying the structures of the un-augmenting past tense in the poetry collection of the Yemeni poet Abdullah Al-Bardouni, entitled “Madinat Al-Ghad (The City of Tomorrow)”, included in the collection of his entire poetic works issued in Sanaa in the year 2004.

The research problem lies in the approach to answering the following question: How did the past tense in its different morphological forms enhance the aesthetic effect in the texts of the aforementioned poetry collection? The stylistic approach was used in the study, where the structure of the study was based according to what is required by the unaugmented morphological trilateral division.

These structures are the vowelization of the second radical letter (‘ain).

The study concludes the following: The poetics of the un-augmenting past tense in this poetry collection is evident in its presence within the poetic structure based on metaphorical deviation, and the narrative and dramatic utilization.

Further, the un-augmented verb has becaome part of the dense poetic language as it did not cease at the morphological indication of the linguistic customs, but the poet bestowed upon these verbs an aesthetic dimension that prompted the artistic depiction to higher horizons.
