Abstract EN

There are numerous idioms and proverbs in the Chinese language which constitute the important content of the middle Chinese.

The paper is focused on the development of Middle Chinese idioms and proverbs to explore their nature.

By examining the related concrete examples from their origins, the paper finds the enrichment of idioms and proverbs of the Middle Chinese language.

Among which, there are three sources of idioms, that is, idioms from ancient books, idioms from medieval works and spoken language, as well as idioms from Buddhist works and the sources of proverbs.

The paper concludes with features of the development of idioms and proverbs in Middle Chinese.
