Abstract EN

Intertextuality is a modern Western critical term.

It refers to the overlapping of a text into a text, or the generation of a new text from previous texts.

This term was first coined by the French critic Julia Kristeva in 1969 and its sources differ, including literary, religious, historical and others.

Intertextuality is the product of a culture that blends and interacts in the mind of the creative author, evoking its disjecta membra during the initiation of the creative process.

The poet Abdul Samad Bakathir is one of the poets of the 10th century AH (died in 1024 AH).

He was born in Taris town in 955 AH in Wadi Hadhramout.

He was also nicknamed as the poet Sultan Omar bin Badr Al-Kathiri.

The research briefly preludes the discussion about the phenomenon of intertextuality in Arab and Western literature.

This is followed by a discussion of the existence of this phenomenon in Abdul Samad Bakathir‟s poetry, where the researcher discovered a considerable number of verses that have intertextual relationship with former poets of the Islamic and Abbasid eras, and deliberately manifested and elucidated them.

This study adopted the analytical descriptive approach.
