Arabic Abstract
هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على كيفية تصويرفادية فقير وديانا أبو جابر للمرأة العربية في روايتيها اسمي سلمى وهلال هدفت الدراسة أيضا إلى المقارنة بين تمثيل الكاتبتين للمرأة العربية بروايتيهما اسمي سلمى وهلال.
ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة، تم استخدام نظرية ما بعد الاستعمار في تحليل الروايتين.
ومن هنا اعتمد الباحث أيضا على نظرة إدوارد سعيد للاستشراق في تحليل الروايتين.
وأظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن كاتبتا المهجر فادية فقير وديانا أبو جابر صورتا المرأة العربية في أعمالهما، اسمي سلمى والهلال بطريقة مختلفة.
في ضوء ذلك، أبو جابر في الهلال تتحدى الصور النمطية التي يمثلها الغرب عن المرأة العربية من خلال تقديم الشخصيات النسوية العربية على أنها مستقلة وواثقة ومتعلمة، وغيرها من الصفات الإيجابية.
لذلك فإن هذا التصوير يتناقض مع تمثيل فادية فقير للمرأة العربية في روايتها اسمي سلمى التي تعكس فيها الصورة النمطية للمرأة العربية المقموعة والخاضعة والتابعة.
English Abstract
The study aims to explore how Fidia faqir and Diana Abu Jaber represent Arab women in their novels, my name is Salma and crescent.
respectively, the study attempts to compare and contrast between the two writers’ representations of Arab women in their aforementioned novels.
this study is conducted using postcolonialism theory.
hence, the researcher relies on Edward Said’s views on orientalism in analyzing both novels.
the study concludes that Abu Jaber in crescent tries to negate the stereotypical images known in the west about Arab women by representing independent, confident, educated Arab women characters.
in contrast, Fidia faqir’s my name is Salma promotes the stereotypical images of the oppressed, submissive, and dependent Arab woman.
