Abstract EN

This study seeks to identify the functional and professional roles of Arab journalists (Egyptians and Saudis), their compatibility with the digital media environment, and the most important changes made by the digital media environment in the nature of their media work.

It also aims to get to know the rehabilitation efforts to keep pace with the developments and challenges of the new media work and the rehabilitation environment.

In addition, the study based on the construction of variables and the interpretation of their results on a set of theoretical approaches, including role theory, field theory, and the Hierarchical Model of News influences.

The study concludes that Arab journalists adopt in their functional roles, Educational role and awareness in the first place.

In second place is the supporting role of the government and the state, while the role of the publicity comes third, and the role of the public mobilization (Community Participation) is in fourth place while the roles of explanation, interpretation, criticism, and observation backed out to the last places.

Besides, the most important changes made by the digital environment to the nature of the media work were the integration of more than one means of processing content through text, image, audio and video clips, and then adopting media forms of a different nature from traditional forms.

Furthermore, focusing on the image and short text, highlighting the specialized media work, targeting a specific audience, Collaborating with the public in content production, and interacting with their ideas.

And in the last order, the use of statistics, drawings, and the tables in media content.
