The free mutlilingual encyclopedia.

Wikipedia, includes a large number of digital images covering all different thematic areas, either through an article that is assigned to each digital image, or by displaying the image as part of an article that is not devoted to annotations about this image.

Searching on a specific digital image in the various language versions of Wikipedia has many problems, including difficulty in accessing unless one uses the suitable key words.

at the same time, Wikipedia contains many digital images of art works with a time span of 40,000 years according to 2020 statistics.

consequently, it is considered as an open and free museum that displays the collective cultural memory of the artistic heritage for the humanity.

the image search engine, crotos, is one of the external tools of the Wikidata database, which is supervised by the Wikimedia foundation.

it adds value for this huge volume of visual art works providing effective retrieval capabilities for these collections of artistic images in 34 different languages.

the study uses the experimental method to test the correlation of the multilingual retrieval rate of images of artworks available via Wikipedia language versions.

the sample includes images of the visual art works of the world's top 100 artists.

crotos were used as the only inventory tool to access the world's top 100 artists artworks stored in the Wikipedia.
