Abstract EN

This article deals with the policy of emperor Constantine towards Christianity during (312-337), so that after his victory over Maxence (27 OCT 312), he worked to take measures in favor of Christianity, by issuing the Milan decree that confirmed the previous decree of tolerance.

he explicitly stated the principle of freedom of belief and granted permanent donations and privileges to the churchs of Africa, but in return he preserved the privileges granted to the pagan religion.

this policy necessitated his intervention in the Christian disputes that existed between the Catholics and the Donatists, in order to ensure the unity of Christianity, which would guarantee the unity of the roman empire, and it was in his political interest to side with the Catholics without trying to understand the truth of their differences, which in his position affected the fate of Christianity in Africa.
