Abstract EN

The religion of mascara had been the scene of a huge cultural movement during the ottoman era which had propelled it to the rank of a scientific centre par excellence.

this is mainly due to the diversity of its religious and educational institutions on one side, and the consequent number of its Chioukhs and Ulemas of great renown on the other side.

the Cheikh Abou Ras Enaceri counts among the polymaths of the city of mascara in particular and of whole Algeria in a general way.

he is part of this generation of encyclopedic scholars who had marked their time in number of books and manuscripts made in various arts and sciences.

the Cheikh Abou Ras Enaceri el-Mouâaskari was born in 1737.

he grew up in an environment conducive to knowledge and piety.

however, it did not prevent the young boy Abouras to taste the bitterness of poverty and the orphanage.

during this hard period of his life, he had learned the Holy Quran from the Ulemas of mascara city.

later, he headed towards the province of Mazouna in order to learn and to apply more in the field of Islamic theology.

in addition, and through his many travels, the Cheikh Abou Ras Enaceri comforted his scholarship thanks to his rapprochement with imminent Ulemas from different countries: Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Palestine and last mecca..

the Cheikh Abou Ras Enaceri held several professional positions.

he practises first in justice.

then later, he devoted himself and in a definitive way to teaching for a period of 36 years.

his notoriety as professor emeritus increased over the years in such a way that the number of his disciples reached the figure of 780.

this meritorious apogee consequently attracted the attention of all the governors of his time who ended up having him a seat especially for his classes.

also, we built him, in recognition of his unparalleled sacrifice and dedication, the library of the “four branches of Islam المذاهب الأربعة ” close to his “zaouïa”, the current mausoleum “sidibouras” in the neighborhood of Bab Ali.

the Cheikh Abou Ras Enaceri el-Mouâaskari died and was buried in his “zaouïa” in the year 1823, bequeathing an invaluable legacy made up of unpublished works in various fields of study: mysticism, religion, history, political science, theology, poetry, astronomy….
