The recent shift towards clean energy is an inevitable necessity, especially in light of the challenges that the environmental system is currently facing in most countries and the worsening global warming phenomenon.

it has become necessary to adopt effective policies for the transition towards renewable energies in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, as well as to reduce as much as possible carbon dioxide emissions by supporting sustainability standards by developing sustainable and smart green cities based on the latest technologies in the field of smart cities, to ensure a clean and healthy environment in the future.

through this study, we aim to highlight the role of green cities in achieving sustainable development by defining their concept, the methodology for transitioning, and the various evaluation criteria, and highlighting some pioneering experiences in the field of green cities in the Arab world and internationally.
