This article is about “masochism” (which is a feeling of pleasure on one’s part when torment is inflicted on him by the other) and its impact on building the character of the hero of the novel “the end of a brave man” by Hanna Minh.

the novel is of great importance because the character of "Mufid al-Wahsh" represents the personality of a lot of men who lived in a similar atmosphere and received a repressive upbringing, and thus had negative repercussions on society.

through the study, we conclude that the cruelty imposed by the poor social situation that surrounded the life of the protagonist, in addition to the harshness of family life, made him put masochism represented in pain and death before his eyes, so he walked on the path of death, not caring about the consequences imposed on him.

from here was the start of this study, a study of the hero's indifference to death and throwing himself into perdition many times.

masochism, which seemed to be clearly defined in the character of the protagonist, eliminated many of the features of his childhood.

what is noteworthy here is that in this turbulent relationship he was not an equal to his peers, rather his constant quarrels were with the elders, at times with the father in his house, and at other times with the teacher and principal at the school, and then with the men of the village.
