This paper tackles an aspect of Malek Bennabi's thought, in which he mixed political philosophy with the philosophy of history : the legacy of the War of Siffin and its profound impact on Islamic civilization.

The paper explains, based on Bennabi's view and historical analysis, how the War of Siffin was the root cause of the breakup of Islamic political values and their eventual marginalization in Islamic history.

It also exposes the deep wounds that Siffin left in the heart of Islamic civilization, and the defections caused by that war in the processes of Islamic history form the first century of Islam until today.
