The city of el-Menia is considered as one of the most important historical cities, and the reason for its existence was primarily the abundance of water.

which water? it is water represented in a fresh underwater sea close to the earth surface, so it was exploited recently by the city’s residents who built the palace on a hill known as the el-Menia’ fortress and from it the name of the city was derived.

in this study, we dealt with the methods used by the residents in extracting underground water to be used for drinking according to "al-Fagarat" engineering and well drilling, which played a major role in the period of the "Zenata kingdom”.

which continued until the Arabs took control of the ancient palace in the modern period in the year 1560.

as for the contemporary period, we study the methods of water exploitation used by the colonial authorities from 1873 to 1954.

then we show the most important results resulting from the abundance of this water at the level of the natural side of the city, at the level of the social side, and at the level of the economic side.
