This article highlights Sheikh Hussein al-Marsafy's efforts to revive literary criticism, especially in his book entitled "the literary instrument", which includes a narration of the rules of familiar sciences such as grammar, morphology, rhetoric ...

etc., and the unknown arts of writing, composition and others.

al-Marsafi has raised many issues in literature and criticism by discussing Arabic rhetoric and its three aspects (statement, semantics, creative) as well as its ramifications and divisions, and its role in literary and critical productions.

al-Marsafi also discusses critical concepts that he has drawn from the books of ancient critics, such as the concept of literature, criticism and poetry, highlighting the foundations of criticism that he considers most important.
