Abstract EN

The paper starts by introducing its core concepts, namely genitive construction and disjunction/genitive-splitting.

Then it tackles the main types of genitive construct/annexation (iḍāfah), laying various grammatical theses about separating the head noun of the genitive construct from the modifying noun.

The study also discusses such separation using conjunction, in particular, and provided examples from the language of journalism by relating it to what has been stated on the subject by early grammarians.

In addition, the paper presents its own perspective on the subject while concluding with a counterargument against such practice, given the risks it might entail.

It recommends that journalists, while editing their texts, should respect the grammatical rules of Arabic to avoid verbosity and stiltedness.
