Abstract AR

Objectives: To study the response of Plasmodium falciparum malaria to chloroquine and to determine the presence of drug resistance in Yemeni citizens returning to Yemen after periods of time spent abroad.

Methods: A cross sectional prevalence study and 7-day in vivo test were conducted in 2 areas.

/Zasultj: Results : The prevalence of first-degree resistance to chloroquine was found in 12.9% of the study group.

It was more prevalent in the rural than in urban area.

Conclusion: First-degree chloroquine resistance is present in Yemen and requires further investigation in order to develop national guidelines for the treatment of malaria.
