Objective: This study aims to explore and analyze the Australian-Chinese ties before and after the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

The study has two questions.

The first: what are the sources of tension and challenges that face the Australian-Chinese ties, especially the economic and political ones? The second: what are the ramifications of Covid-19 pandemic on the economic and political ties between the two countries? The study has three hypotheses.

Economy is the cornerstone of the Australian-Chinese ties.

China's increasing influence in the Asia-Pacific region represents a critical challenge to Australia's political decision makers.

Covid-19 pandemic is one of many elements that have a large negative impact on the Australian-Chinese ties.

The study applied the historical and analytical approaches to answer its questions and test its hypotheses.

The study came to the following conclusions: Economic and trade ties between Australia and China are the keystones of their ties.

China's growing influence near and inside Australia, its militarily modernization, and its 5G technology developments, do worry decision makers in Canberra, and represent a serious challenge that needs to be addressed.

The Covid-19 pandemic is a new element that intensifies and negatively impacts the economic and political ties between the two countries.

The Australian-Chinese bilateral ties are expected to deteriorate further.
