Abstract EN

The stream of consciousness is considered as one of the narrative tools of the modern fiction.

It is a trend within narrative of the postmodernism.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the postmodernism, the aesthetic interaction between arts and literature results in the active presence of such tool in one of the genres of the modern theatre, monodrama.

Due to the importance of the manifestations of consciousness in the monodrama narrative, the researcher seeks to discern if such matter is related to monodrama as a theatrical art or it is an aesthetic necessity that unfolds the nature of the diversity requirement in monodrama.

The present research involves four chapters : chapter one deals with the methodological framework, the second addresses the theoretical framework (philosophical and psychological backgrounds) and the third encapsulates the procedure of data collection and analyses.

The researcher has selected and analysed a play text, "Oil spot" by the Iraqi playwright, Mahmood Abu Al-Abass, according to the descriptive and qualitative approach.

The findings that the research arrived at and the consequent conclusions represent the fourth chapter.
