Abstract AR
This paper presents 5 cases of per-operative anaphylactic shock encountered during hydatid cyst surgery of the liver.
The anaphylaxis was neither due to rupture of the hydatid cyst in a body cavity nor due to spillage of hydatid cyst contents in the peritoneal cavity during the surgery.
We believe that the explanation of this occurrence was the passage of highly antigenic hydatid cyst contents into the blood stream leading to IgE mediated anaphylaxis manifested clinically by hypoxia, hypotension and shock in the anesthetized patient.
