This study aims to introduce the term Folksonomy, its Arabization, its various definitions, types, advantages and disadvantages, and a presentation of the most important sites that relied on it, such as Flickr and Delicious in the Western environment, and the Al Wafir in the Arab environment.

The study focused on the main differences between the Folksonomy and both taxonomy and ontology as a tool for organizing information in the digital environment.

The study provides a set of recommendations, including those libraries available on the Internet should make the most possible use of modern tools for organizing information, and that information specialists should pay attention to modern methods of organizing and retrieving information, especially about user participation.
