Abstract EN

This research examines Étienne de la Boisse’s interpretation of the concept of political despotism (Étienne de la Boisse is the founder of modern political philosophy in France) and the German philosopher and psychologist Eric Frome's interpretation of the same concept.

The first provides an explanation of political despotism that focuses on the social aspects; his arguments are directed towards the voice of the submissive oppressed people, attributing those poor people’s submissiveness to one individual tyrant to the act of submission and response to tyranny those masses of people have.

Furthermore*in order to be free from tyranny of the despot and to defeat him*the oppressed mu£t stop obeying the former and refrain from carrying out his orders‘only themhe (the despot) is going to fall like a huge baseless Statue.

Eric Fromrms interpretatiomon the other hand‘highlights the individual and psychological aspects of autocracy*finding out through his analysis that sadism and masochism exiSt in all human beings‘healthv and sick‘though to varying degrees^the tyrant exerts his sadistic tendency based on being-delighted-in-hurting others out of love of control; whereas the oppressed expresses his masochistic tendency based on being-dclighted-by-pain inflicted upon him by a Stronger personality capable of liberating him from fear of freedom.
