تهدف هذه الدارسة إلى إعادة رسم خريطة الذات من خلال التخلي عن القيود الذكورية في روايتي الصحوة لكيت شوبان وجين آير لشارلوت برونتي.

تم تحقيق من ذلك من خلال البحث عن كيفية محاولة الروايتان تحرير النساء، وكيف أثرت هاتان الروايتان على القراء ليصبحوا معارضين ومقاومين للقمع ومن خلال البحث عن الأشياء الأساسية التي تجعل شارلوت برونتي وكيت شوبان كاتبتين نسويتين.

تعتبر الدراسة نوعية بطبيعتها وتعتمد على قراءة تفصيلية لكلتا الروايتان، حيث تم تحليل النصان من خلال د راسة طرق تمثيل وبناء النوع الاجتماعي في الروايات، وتحديد الموضوعات والدوافع الرئيسية المتعلقة بالنوع الاجتماعي والسلطة وذلك من خلال الاستعانة بالنظرية الأدبية النسوية.

كشفت النتائج أن كلا من الصحوة لكيت شوبان وجين إير لشارلوت برونتي تصوران موضوع إعادة رسم خريطة الذات من خلال التخلي عن القيود الذكورية وتوضحان القوة التحويلية للتأمل الذاتي، والتمرد على الأعراف المجتمعية، ورفض السلطة الذكورية من خلال تمكين المرأة والدعوة إلى واستقلاليتها.

كما كشف التحليل عن عنصر التحدي في كلتا الروايتان للقواعد الذكورية وتأكيدهما على أهمية اكتشاف الذات وتحقيقها بالنسبة للنساء.

كما كشف التحليل أن بطلتا الروايتان تحديا التوقعات المجتمعية وقوتها وفاعليتها.

وقد استنتجت الدراسة أن هاتان الروايتان قادرتين على أن تلهما بعض القراء ليصبحوا معارضين ومقاومين للقمع والنضال المستمر من أجل المساواة بين الجنسين وحرية المرأة.

English Abstract

This study aims to do a remapping of the self through renunciation of patriarchal constraints in Kate Chopin's The Awakening and Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre.

This is achieved through investigating (1) how both writers presented their heroines with tendencies towards emancipation and liberation, (2) how both writers affect indirectly the readers to be oppositional and resistant against oppression and suppression, and (3) how we can look at the essential factors that make Charlotte Bronte and Kate Chopin ‘feminist’ writers: those who support feminist beliefs and the social rights for women.

The study is qualitative in nature and based on a close reading of both novels, where the researcher analyzed the two texts through examining the ways in which gender is represented and constructed in the novels, and by identifying the key themes and motifs related to gender and power relations through the application of the Feminist Literary Theory which is used to consider the relationship between men and women and their roles in society.

The study has found that both The Awakening by Kate Chopin and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte portray the theme of remapping of the self through renunciation of patriarchal constraints which illustrates the transformative power of self-reflection, rebellion against societal norms, and call for the rejection of patriarchal authority in enabling women to assert their agency and autonomy.

The analysis has also found that both novels challenge patriarchal norms and emphasize the importance of self-discovery and self-fulfillment for women.

The female protagonists of both novels challenge their societal expectations and assert their own strength and agency, and this may have inspired some readers to become oppositional and resistant against oppression and suppression in the ongoing struggle for gender equality and freedom of women.
