Abstract EN

This study discusses an important stage in Algeria’s history: the Algerian liberation revolution 1954-1962, an example of humanitarian treatment and respect for international humanitarian law, particularly the third Geneva convention relating to the treatment of prisoners of war.

this is evidenced by the French prisoners’ self-proclaimed testimony when describing their situation in captivity, where members of the ELN guaranteed them all the rights referred to in international humanitarian law.

this is what the French colonial forces have not committed themselves where Algerian prisoners of war were subjected to abhorrent treatment and various methods of physical and psychological torture against them.
