Abstract EN

This research paper aims to highlight the impact of direct general elections on the legal status of the president of the republic in the Algerian political system.

through our study, we have found that electing the president of the republic through direct general elections has granted them a strong legal position, as their political standing is linked to the support and strength derived from the popular base, which has bestowed upon them democratic legitimacy and brought them to power.

this position is embodied in the direct relationship established between the president and the people, as the legitimate representative and expression of their will, tasked with embodying the unity of the nation and the state internally and externally by the nation's founding principles.
