Objectives : To describe the experience of the King Hussein Medical Center and the Prince Hashem Hospital with gallstone ileus over a 10 year period Methods : 6 patients (one male and 5 females), were treated for gallstone ileus.
All patients underwent surgical treatment.
Results : The diagnosis was made before operation in 2 cases (33.3%).
The obstructing stones were located in the terminal ileum in 3 cases (50%), and in the jejunum and upper ileum in the other 3 cases (50%).
Chole do cho-duodenal fistula was present in all cases.
A brief review of the clinical findings and treatment of gallstone ileus is presented.
There was one post-operative death.
Conclsion : Gallstone ileus is a rare life-threatening condition requiring prompt and appropriate surgical intervention.
