The electoral system plays a major role in determining the nature of political representation within the parliament and the strength of its performance, and this was evident by the adoption by the Algerian legislator of the open list system with preferential voting, which resulted through the legislative elections of 2021, a different national people's assembly than in the previous elections, which were held according to the closed list system, as the election results produced a broad representation of national competencies, and an improvement in parliamentary performance recorded during the first legislative session of this council in 2021-2022.
