This article attempts to explore an applied approach that is relatively scarce or unknown in the Arab literary criticism arena.

it focuses on one of the narrative components, namely description, particularly in its relationship with time, or what Gérard Genette refers to as the descriptive pause.

these applications, which rely on functional aspects, are not a recent development, as they have been acknowledged by Philippe Hamon and extensively studied by Mohammed Najib al-Amami.

therefore, through further description and analysis, we aim to affirm the validity of such approaches in Arabic texts.

we conclude that it is essential to embrace studies of this nature due to their significant impact on invigorating the dynamics of criticism through the diversity and variation of mechanisms.
