يعد إتقان مهارات التواصل باللغة الإنجليزية في نظر العديد من المؤسسات الثقافية والتعليمية والصناعية في العالم عاملا رئيسيا للنجاح والتقدم في مجالات العلوم والصناعة والتعاملات التجارية، وقد يؤدي الافتقار إلى مثل هذه المهارات إلى التأثير سلبا على النجاح المهني، و يسود اعتقاد بين مدرسي اللغة الإنجليزية وطلاب الكليات الطبية والخريجين الموظفين في السعودية بوجود علاقة وطيدة بين كفاءة الأداء في القطاع الطبي وإتقان مهارات التواصل باللغة الإنجليزية، ويكمن السبب وراء إجراء هذا البحث في تسليط الضوء على هذا الاعتقاد والتأكد من الفرضية القائلة بأن العوائق اللغوية قد تشكل مصدرا محتملا بسبب الضغوطات في مقر العمل بالإضافة إلى تقديم رعاية صحية متدنية المستوى، ومتستعرض الدراسة وجهات نظر المختصين حول دور إتقان اللغة الإنجليزية في تعزيز النجاح المهني في القطاع الصحي ضمن مقرات العمل في المملكة العربية السعودية، وتم جمع البيانات في هذه الدراسة ذات المناهج المتعددة من خلال إجراء استبيان لأراء 430 من طلاب الطلب و318 من موظفي قطاع الرعاية الصحية.
وتم أيضا إجراء 33 من المقابلات شبه المنهجة مع طلاب طلب، وخريجين (حاليا موظفي قطاع الرعاية الصحية)، وأطباء ممن يتحدثون اللغة الإنجليزية، ومساعدين صحيين، بالإضافة إلى مدراء مستشفيات، وتظهر النتائج أن غالبية المبحوثين يعتقدون بأن ضعف المستوى في اللغة الإنجليزية يؤدي عادة إلى ضعف مستوى قدرات التواصل مما يسبب عدم الكفاءة في تقديم الرعاية الصحية المناسبة والعكس صحيح، فإن إتقان مهارات التواصل من المؤشرات على الخدمات الممتازة والتفاعل الإيجابي بين متخصصي الرعاية الصحية والطبية، وتخلصي نتائج الدراسة إلى التأكيد على الحاجة إلى إعادة هيكلة مناهج اللغة الإنجليزية التخصصية من أجل معالجة مسألة مهارات التواصل باللغة الإنجليزية واعتبارها من ضمن العوامل الأساسية للنجاح المهني.

Proficiency in English communicative skills are conceived by a great number of cultural, educational, and industrial institutions in the world, as a decisive factor of success and advancement in the fields of science, industry, and business transactions.
in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, there is a growing assumption among teachers of English, medical college students, graduates, employees and employers that efficient performance in the medical profession as well as proficiency in English language communicative skills are closely related.
the reason for engaging with the topic of the research is to address this assumption and explore the opinions of prospective and current healthcare professionals about the significance of the role of the communicative English proficiency in professional success in Saudi Arabia.
the data of this mixed-method study are obtained through a questionnaire survey completed by 430 medical students and 318 health care employees.
the results of the questionnaire survey are completed by the findings of 33 semi-structured interviews conducted with medical students, graduates (health care employees), English-Speaking physicians and health assistants, and hospital managers.
findings show that good command of communicative skills and appropriate workplace literacy are indicative of high-quality service and positive interaction among medical and healthcare professionals.
the implications of the study show the need for redirecting ESP curricula so as to address communicative English skills as essential factors of professional success.
