The aim of the research is to identify the cultural patterns of religious authority in Yemeni popular proverbs, in order to reveal the religious contents and beliefs that have a profound impact on the culture of the clergy, which carries an authoritarian dimension in which it is based on dynastic affiliation, or knowledge and jurisprudence in matters of religion.

the research relied on cultural criticism and its methodological procedures, as it is the ideal approach for this type of literary studies.

the nature of the critical work in this research necessitated its division into two sections.

the first section was concerned with the patterns of dominance of religious authority in the Yemeni popular proverb, while the second section was concerned with the patterns of opposition.
