Horses have attracted man’s attention over different stages and eras, particularly for being a commodity to use in daily chores, travelling, conquest, etc., in addition to its charm and beauty.

The purebred among them have been given special care, attention as well as expenditure.

The Arab in the pre-Islamic era and Islam alike had special stories and attitudes with horses.

They boasted specifically about horses, which had bloodlines and lineages like their owner, who in return takes pride in their pure-breeding, as if he sees in this evidence of the originality of his own lineage! So owners have always exaggerated in honoring and caring for them, to the extent of favoring them over himself in many things.

This study sheds light on horses in the poetry of Zaid al-Khail Al-Ta’I - a poet known for his affection to horses and his possession of the purebred among them.

He drew pictures of horsemanship or equestrianism, which occupied a large portion of his poetry to serve his purpose and to accommodate his pride and esteem in himself and his people.
