Abstract EN

This research aims at reading "The Ceramics or the transformations of Soil in Omar al-Khayyam's Ruba'iyat", with contemplation.

The Ruba'iyat has been sincere to the sensory artistic images which depend on examining the transformations of images that afflict the human being, this earthly being, mostly those images related to ceramics and pottery; images which provoke the imagination and the intellect at the same time.

al-Khayyam has contemplated the transformation of soil or mud and has reflected them in sensory images that visually examine and evoke abstract thought, transcending the recurring traditional idea or ideas about the creation of man from mud and his return to it.

It is an idea that was first put forward by religious texts and its presence was established in the mind and in human history, however, al-Khayyam has transformed these ideas into images and scenes, and has contemplated such images mostly visually; embodied in poetic images which express an ideology that realizes the fragility of human existence and its temporariness.

As a result, this leads to a bitter feeling of life; its limitations, transformations and continuous dissolution into elements that emanate from the soil and manifest themselves in various forms; ceramic images-mud like at times, and plant like at others.

However, in all cases they express the fragility of man, his temporary existence, and his inability to confront his destiny and solve his mysteries.
