Abstract EN

In this research, we discuss a historical and symbolic study of the god "Baal Hammon", as he is one of the most important Phoenician-Carthaginian pagan deities in the ancient Algerian west.

this is by showing the multiple linguistic interpretations that were presented in order to explain the components of his name, and to discuss the rooting of his worship in the region.

in addition to the different opinions of researchers between those who believe in his orientalism and those who assume his locality and his mixing with the eastern Phoenician god "Baal" to produce for us the god "Baal Hammon".

without forgetting to introduce its functions mainly related to fertility and agriculture, and its various bodies and symbols, which are led by the ram and the sun.

whether during the Phoenician-Carthaginian period or after it was romanticized and called "Saturnus Africanus".

with reference also to his worship in the countries of the ancient Maghreb in general and the region of the ancient west of Algeria in particular.

similar to "Carthage-Carthago", "Constantine-Cirta", "Bateoua-Portus Magnus" and "Tacambrit-Siga", in order to make a comparison between the extent of the spread of his worship in the studied region and the rest of the regions of the ancient Maghreb.
