Abstract EN

This study aimed to reveal the stylistic structures in the poetry of Yazid bin Mu'awiyah, illustrated by one of his love poems.

To achieve the aims of the study, the researcher used the stylistic approach and the study covered three levels of stylistic analysis of the text; the phonological, the structural, and the semantic level.

The stylistic structures are varied in the poem; phonologically, structurally and semantically to transfer the emotional experience of the poet and to give the poem multiple aesthetic features that affect the receivers’ emotions.

As for the phonological level, the outer and inner music combined in the text resulted in aesthetic features, which in turn affected the receiver.

As for the structural level, the poet used decomposing of events by changing the order of events, and by using pronouns for referencing, which has intensified the aesthetic features of the text.

As for the semantic level, we noticed that metaphor appeared to be an important stylistic feature for the poem; the metaphor gave the poet a chance to transfer the poetic image from the ordinary type to the indirect type, revealing the poet’s point of view of life.

Furthermore, there were other several stylistic structures at different levels of the poem.
