Abstract EN

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of the continued dominance of the French language over the Algerian cultural and linguistic fabric by analyzing the strategies it pursues to exploit bilingualism in the academic field.

we used the descriptive analytical comparative approach, which compares linguistic phenomena in two fields, and we used the closed electronic form technology to obtain the greatest amount of information.

we have found that bilingualism in the academic field has contributed to the formation of two linguistic elites, an Arabized elite that lacks recognition and chances of advancement in prestigious positions, and a French-speaking elite that has all the means of recognition, of social appreciation and the best chances of ascent to prestigious positions, which created a distinction between the two elites, which led to the creation of a stereotypical image of the social and symbolic importance of the French language, and the confining of the cultural function of the national language to some limited spaces, that is to say the reproduction of the same ideas that the colonizer sought to implant in the minds of Algerians during the colonial era.
