Abstract EN

This research examines the role that endowment (Waqf) can play in tackling some contemporary economic problems, and achieve economic development in Egypt, given the role that the endowment had in this field in Islamic civilization through the ages, and given what might be in the case of reviving the endowment system.

the research found that the endowment had a positive role in addressing some contemporary economic problems such as, unemployment, poverty, and the budget deficit.

the endowment also has a positive role in tackling some of the problems that hinder economic development.

there is also a strong relationship between the endowment, sustainable development and civilized action in society, that may qualify the endowment to play a positive role and support the economic development efforts in Egypt.

however, the endowments in Egypt suffer from many problems that significantly weaken its economic and social role.

therefore, the research recommends tackling these problems in order for the Waqf to be able to fulfil its historical role in tackling some economic problems and achieving economic development in Egypt.

the research has also developed a suggested plan to revive the Islamic Waqf in Egypt.
