The twentieth century is characterized by the diversity of its philosophical currents, as this century was the scene of a rapid transformation in various fields of thought and life, and these intellectual transformations contributed to the emergence of scientific currents with different directions, and the United States of America embraced the most important of those currents in that era, which is pragmatic thought.

the pragmatic current in the twentieth century adopted a new scientific approach and method, expressing the American philosophical spirit expressing that scientific era which followed the scientific method, but despite the philosophical thought that characterized that current, it played a major role in changing life values, but that did not prevent it from his exposure to several criticisms lead to the reform of the contradiction.

these criticisms were an area of critical analytical study in our research.

therefore, this research deals with the concept of pragmatism, and shows the historical development of the emergence of the term pragmatism to contemporary pragmatism in the United States of America, and a presentation of the most important pioneers.

then the research deals with the most important principles upon which pragmatism is based and to clarify the criticism directed at it using an analytical critical methodology, and this is the aim of the research to remove confusion and ambiguity represented in showing the negative criticism of that current and ignoring the effective cycle in scientific development the research ends with the most important results we have reached, which representa summary of what has been listed and criticized, then the margins of the research.
