The research deals with schizophrenia as a serious mental illness, and its impact on the marriage contract.

Where the patient suffers from a chronic brain disorder, manifested by symptoms including delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, difficulty thinking and lack of motivation, and it is classified within the category of endogenous psychoses, that is, psychoses whose causes are still unknown.

This disorder impairs the basic functions that give a normal person feelings of individuality, privacy, and freedom of choice.

The patient feels torn and unsure of his self-identity, and studies indicate that it is a genetic disease because there are indications of the recurrence of schizophrenia in some families, and that it can be inherited, which is a direct harm to children and grandchildren.

This mental illness has a legitimate effect on the marriage contract, as it may lead to the end of the marital relationship, because it disturbs the stability of that relationship, and takes away the purpose of marriage, which is sexual intercourse and offspring, and affects awareness and awareness.

The right party has the option to stay or to seek separation.

Hence, it was better for the spouses to conduct a medical examination, before the contract, so that each of them could find out the condition of the other, and not fall into unfairness, deceit, or fraud.
