The presence of Qatar in a hostile regional environment constituted a security dilemma for the founding fathers of the state of Qatar, given that the withdrawal of the British armies from their bases east of Suez-which was announced in 1968 and entered into force in 1971, as well as from the gulf region-was accompanied by many regional challenges despite the continued British protection until the attainment of British protection.

Qatar gained its independence in 1971, and emerged as one of those gulf “oil kingdoms” placed under the protection of Washington, which assumed responsibility after London in this region of strategic importance for global energy.
