Abstract AR

Abstract EN

Morocco became of great interest to British travelers during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries due to the English occupation of Gibraltar in 1704.

the number of travelers exceeded fifty, compared to only two travelers during the pre-occupation period, the journey of Englishman John Smith and the Scottish William Lithgow, as part of their grand voyages.

in addition, there were some journeys as part of embassies, diplomatic missions, and trade.

from this, we can conclude that the British presence in Gibraltar, along with the resulting relations between Morocco and Britain, played a significant role in this increase of travel to Morocco.
