Specialized lexicographical heritage is rich with huge scientific works, some of which have reached us and others have been lost.

among the specialized lexicons that have reached us are: “Kitāb al-Nabāt”, by el Dinawari (the book of plants) and “Kitab al-Jami li-Mufradat Aladwiyawa al-Aghdhiya” by Ibn Elbaitar (compendium of medicinal and nutritional terms).

the current research investigates the effect these two significant scholars in this art, have on the creation of specialized lexicons in general and the scientific ones in particular.

moreover, a comparison between the efforts of scholars from two different eras, is set to help trace the evolution of the lexicographical practice and its becoming, with an emphasis on the lexicon transition from general linguistic compilation perspective to a specialized scientific lexicography.
