Abstract EN

The study deals with a reading of the archival correspondence of members of the Mokrani family settled in Tunisia and Algeria to the French authorities in order to return and settle in Algeria.

therefore, we tried to address this in two parts, the first part from 1888 to 1896, and the second we will try to address in another article from 1897 to 1915 in order to enrich historical research and scholars conducted archival documents that reveal an important part of the history of Algeria, and as a sample of the history of aristocratic families that were affected by economic and social disintegration, displacement, deportation, and impoverishment.

correspondence was directed to the resident general of the French protectorate in Tunisia, the general government in Algeria, and even to the ministry of foreign affairs in Paris, requesting return and retrieval.

influence and property at a time when French settlement programs expanded under civil rule and the influence of the colonialists, who saw their presence as a danger because the name of the Mokrani family was linked to the 1871 uprising in the imagination of the Algerians.
