The article addresses the role played by Algerian migration to the Hijaz and the journeys they undertook to the holy sites, during the 18th and 19th centuries.

in solidifying the Arab Islamic identity of the Algerian people.

these migrations and journeys helped connect Algerians with their Arab and Islamic surroundings and resisted colonial policies aimed at changing the identity of Algerians.

this occurred within the context of cultural resistance to colonization, which took various forms, including re-establishing cultural bridges with the Arab east.

the Hijaz was a destination for those who refused to abandon their religion and language through various migrations and journeys.

they established strong relationships with scholars and officials in the Hijaz, acting as a bridge for the transmission of knowledge to colonial Algeria, thus serving as a strong barrier against the dissolution of the Algerian people into western civilization.
