The cities of Western Sudan formed one of the most important scientific centers in North Africa, which made it a pilgrimage site for many students and scholars from different parts of the Islamic world, including the scholars of Tawat, who had a strong and distinguished presence in that region, and formed a link and a meeting point between the metropolis of Tawat and the cities of Western Sudan.

Many Twatian scholars have been mentioned in the writings of travelers and historians from western Sudan, including Abd al-Rahman al-Saadi in his book “The History of Sudan,” in which he translated nearly two hundred scholars who lived and composed in that region, including many Twatian scholars, and it is considered a historical testimony added to the definition of the position of the Tawat scholars in western Sudan
