Abstract EN

This study aims to assess the current state of school counseling in Algerian secondary schools, focusing on the case of school counselors in Algiers.

it examines the criteria used to guide students to the second year of high school.

the study employs a descriptive analytical approach, using a questionnaire as a tool for collecting data on the organizational procedures of the admission and guidance councils for the second year of high school.

the questionnaire consists of two axes: one on the training of school counselors and the other on the organizational procedures of the guidance councils.

it was distributed to a group of school counselors.

the results of the study show that school counselors benefit from and participate in training activities to a moderate extent.

the consistency between the ministerial texts organizing the guidance process and the actual practice was also rated as moderate.

this may be due to the difficulty of applying these texts in the concrete reality, despite the fact that school counselors in Algerian educational institutions rely on specific and unified criteria in guiding students.
