Contemporary Islamic societies have witnessed the emergence of religious-political movements in recent decades, aiming to reconstruct the state based on religious principles.

In this pursuit, numerous Islamic religious organizations have succeeded in reaching the forefront of governance.

Among them, the Islamic religious movement in Iran stands out, not only for being the first Islamic movement to attain governance but also for its enduring influence in managing public affairs.

It has played a pivotal role in transforming the political system from a monarchy to an Islamic Republic, grounded in the theory of Wilayat al-Faqih, with religious leaders governing the entire state apparatus.

This paper explores how this movement has governed public affairs in Iran, guided by its religious framework.

It delves into the characteristics of its Islamic governance experience, examining its successes, limitations, and failures.

Additionally, the paper assesses its regional and international relations.
